The Ibn Fadlan Route, 921 → 2026

In 921 the Abbasid caliph al-Muqtadir sent an embassy north to the Volga Bulgars. Among its members was a young secretary, Ahmad ibn Fadlan, who wrote down what he saw: the river, the markets, the timber houses and the Rus traders on the bank.

He wrote for a reader who had never left the desert. We write for a family planning its first trip north. The road is the same. The comforts are not: halal tables, prayer rooms, guides who speak Arabic, and a programme built around the family's day rather than a bus timetable.

1,100 years later we are still on that road. From the desert to the snow.

We do not retell his journey as history alone. We take the same northern road and make it comfortable for the people travelling it today.
